Reports to: Head of Strategy and Engagement
Location: Hybrid (St Helens / London as needed)
Salary Range: £50,000 – £65,000 (depending on experience)
Role Purpose
To drive strategic engagement with key stakeholders across local and central government, arms-length bodies, and policy influencers, ensuring Glass Futures’ innovative work in sustainable industrial transformation is understood, supported, and amplified to drive policy and future programmes. Research, develop, and report strategies and policies for government departments and other organisations to develop an environment in which Glass Futures can grow and the Foundational Industries can thrive. This role is central to communicating our mission and shaping the policy environment that enables industrial innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and manage relationships with government departments (e.g. DESNZ, DBT), local authorities, arm’s length bodies (UKRI, IUK) and public sector partners.
- Represent Glass Futures’ innovation agenda in meetings, site visits, at key events and briefings.
- Coordinate engagement activities that showcase our pioneering work in industrial decarbonisation and across all GFL research priorities.
Policy analysis and development
- Gather and analyse data, study trends, and understand existing policies and their impacts on Foundational Industries and manufacturing.
- Respond to consultations and engage in parliamentary activity and events relating to innovation in industry, manufacturing and clean energy.
- Work with stakeholders to develop new policies and changes to existing policies to support innovation in the Foundational Industries.
- Provide strategic insights to internal teams on emerging opportunities, risks, and alignment with Glass Futures’ innovation roadmap.
Communications & Advocacy
- Draft compelling letters, briefing notes, and correspondence to ministers, MPs, and senior officials that reflect Glass Futures’ innovative contributions.
- Draft white papers aligned with policy analysis and development.
- Support the development of advocacy materials that position Glass Futures as a thought leader in industrial innovation.
Internal Collaboration
- Work closely with Strategy, Communications, Commercial and Technical teams to ensure consistent messaging around innovation priorities.
- Maintain engagement records and contribute to reporting on stakeholder impact and influence.
Person Specification
Essential
- Proven experience in senior stakeholder engagement, public affairs, or government relations.
- Strong written communication skills, especially in drafting formal correspondence to senior government and industry figures.
- Demonstrated understanding of UK government structures and policy-making processes around innovation.
- Passion for innovation and the ability to communicate complex ideas in accessible ways.
- Ability to manage multiple relationships and priorities in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.
Desirable
- Proven experience in policy influence, development or advisory services.
- Experience in clean energy, industrial innovation, or sustainability sectors.
- Familiarity with parliamentary processes and public consultations.
- Existing network within relevant government departments or agencies.
- Knowledge of UKRI and other grant funding processes.
