About our Opportunity:

An unrivalled opportunity has become available for a commercially driven Business Development Manager. The successful postholder will be pivotal in generating and retaining our global customer and membership portfolio within the glass supply chain and bridging the gap between industry and academia supporting the wider Business Development and Membership team. This post will suit an individual with the motivation to develop effective relationships and a passion for engaging with academia and R&D.  

Collaborating with leading industry experts from the glass and technology sectors and due to the nature of the business and our St Helens project (Centre of Excellence), a strong background in industry is highly advantageous for this role, however we are also open to hearing from exceptional experienced candidates with a wide scope of experience, demonstrable transferable skills, and core values aligned with our own to become an essential part of our team.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop collaborative partnerships across the glass industry and wider foundation industries to deliver value to new partners and Glass Futures.
  • Support with implementing a successful BD strategy for continued success for membership development
  • Proactively seek, identify and secure funding pipelines and opportunities through a multitude of avenues
  • Support with the development and delivery of bids and proposals for new projects
  • Effectively administer, maintain, and manage internal CRM systems
  • Continuously prospect the R&D market for opportunities
  • Prepare proposals and quotes and help close new deals, driving revenue for Glass Futures
  • Translate business requirements into commercial approaches
  • Create, implement, and deliver weekly, monthly update reports
  • Excel in achieving agreed KPI’s

Person Specification:

  • Ideally, a minimum of 5 years of demonstrable/ practical Business Development experience
  • Technical and practical relevant industry knowledge (desirable)
  • Ideally from Glass background or from within an Industrial/R&D environment
  • Experience at influencing and achieving commercial advantage
  • Expert networker with the ability to forge and maintain sound effective relationships
  • Ability to work collaboratively with departments and project teams
  • Customer focussed, and dedicated to exceeding the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to accommodate various audiences
  • Experience with Academia is desired but not essential

Desirable Skills/Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication & presentation skills to a range of audience members including C-Level executives
  • Confident negotiation and influencing techniques and skills
  • Practical experience and familiarity working with CRM systems
  • Business to Business (B2B) and Business to Customer (B2C) experience
  • Microsoft Office literate, ideally at intermediate level

Salary:
£40-£50k Dependant on experience?

Working Hours:
Full time, Monday to Friday 37.5 hours – we work flexibly within our core hours of 8am-4pm to support essential work life balance.

Location:
This is a hybrid-based role and involves occasional travel (national and international) and to our Centre of Excellence site in St Helens.

Holidays:
25 days holiday plus bank holidays (FTE), pro rata may apply. Plus, additional service days.
